EXELON DESIGN SYSTEM

My favorite project at Exelon was my time as the Design Lead for the Exelon Utilities Design System (EUDS). I was hired to lead the project based on previous experience working with design systems. I was on the project for around two years, and during that time I had the opportunity to develop and release design documentation using Zeroheight, create net-new components, and develop documentation “Dos and Don’t” for all components.

I was also single-handedly responsible for migrating the entire design system from Sketch to Figma. Because of the platform differences and issues with the way that the original Sketch Symbols were created, this meant creating each of the 30+ Figma components from scratch. Each component also had to be built to scale, with a studio of 35+ designers leveraging the components thousands of times a week.

Because of the need for scale and flexibility, I got very comfortable with component properties, variants, auto-layout, and more! The goal was always to make it as simple as possible for designers to use the components, even at the expense of complications on my end. I remember at one point there was a Figma update that would radically simplify the component usage experience – so I had to rebuild every component to use the new feature!
